In My Health

Last week I found out I was suffering from a bladder infection to which the doctor prescribed some antibiotics. By the next day, I was feeling much better.
The smoke in our city from the BC fires is still burning out of control, so in order to avoid jogging outside in that smoke, I applied for a membership to a fitness center.
I am still waiting for my approval to come in the mail. It will be good for the winter too.

My doctor also told me about steroid injections I can get for my back pain. I have degenerative disk disease and arthritis in the lumbar area, where it hurts so bad I can barely walk sometimes. I have an appointment on Friday, August 31 and I can’t wait! I’m so happy about that! I hope it will help keep me mobile. *fingers crossed…
§ Steroid injections, also called corticosteroid injections, are anti-inflammatory medicines used to treat a range of conditions such as arthritis and back pain.

¶ In other more brighter news that put a smile on my face, I bought a comfortable fleece sweatshirt hoodie from Newchic ←(magic links)

I got my Jaclyn Hill Vault eyeshadow palettes in collaboration with Morphe! I love all the palettes! They are so good and affordable IMO. $64 for all 4 or $20 each. It’s better than $40 for one.

On My Blog

I joined two weekly memes that I participated in this week that I hadn’t heard of before and another one the week before that :p

Down the TBR Hole, created by Lia @ Lost in A Story, is about getting rid of some of your books on your Goodreads TBR shelf, and seeing which ones you would like to keep or not. I love it because when you have a lot of books as I do (over a thousand), it is like shopping your own stash. It’s amazing what you can find!

Friday Faceoff was created by Books by Proxy and is about choosing a book title according to the weekly theme and comparing it to different covers and choosing which one you like best. Next week is about a cover featuring a goblin or dwarves.

Books from the Backlog is hosted @Carole’s Random Life. It’s a fun way to feature some of the neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread.

Seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher knows firsthand the devastating consequences of humanity’s war with the stunning, otherworldly Luxen. Evie was just a kid when the aliens were defeated, but her life was forever changed when her father, Sergeant Jason Dasher, was killed during one of the deadly battles.

When Evie is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen…but he is, in fact, something much more secret—and much more dangerous.

Her growing desire to know about Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she’d only heard about, revealing secrets long buried, a betrayal that could tear her life apart, and an attraction that could be the very end of her.

All the Little Lights

by Jamie McGuire
My Review
The first time Elliott Youngblood spots Catherine Calhoun, he’s just a boy with a camera, and he’s never seen a sadder and more beautiful sight. Both Elliott and Catherine feel like outcasts, yet they find an easy friendship with each other. But when Catherine needs him most, Elliott is forced to leave town.

Elliott finally returns, but he and Catherine are now different people. He’s a star high school athlete, and she spends all her free time working at her mother’s mysterious bed-and-breakfast. Catherine hasn’t forgiven Elliott for abandoning her, but he’s determined to win back her friendship…and her heart.

Just when Catherine is ready to fully trust Elliott, he becomes the prime suspect in a local tragedy. Despite the town’s growing suspicions, Catherine clings to her love for Elliott. But a devastating secret that Catherine has buried could destroy whatever chance of happiness they have left.

Sorry to hear about the smoke, and the infection too. Glad you’re feeling better. And good luck with the injections too! I have a cousin with really bad rheumatoid arthritis, and man does she suffer with it. Hope the shots provide some relief!

Love your books this week- the Karin Slaughter one is supposed to be pretty good, and The Darkest Star looks good too.

    Have a super weekend!

  3. That hoodie is super cute! You are the second person I have seen with those palettes in the past hour. I’m super clueless about makeup, but I also like looking at the palettes.
Faithless seems really interesting! I have a soft spot for vampire fic.

I hope you have a lovely week!

  4. I hope the steroid injection will help, Jackie! I have a problem with one of my discs in my lumbar area, too, but most of the time, it’s manageable. Which is a good thing, as I can’t take anti inflammatory medication.
Your new books look great – and I love your makeup palettes.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

Jackie so many amazing books. I’m yet to read Armentrout’s Lux series but this book has been calling out to me in my NG catalogue.

How are you finding the Jaclyn Hill palette? Is it good quality and nothing like the scandal?

I want to start The Darkest Star soon, maybe today, but I’m still listening to From Here to You. Some people are just so darn hard to please with makeup. Of course they’re good. I like Morphe eyeshadows though. They are smooth and with almost every shade there is hardly any fall out. It’s Jaclyn Hill ffs! whether you apply it with a brush or finger , wet or dry these shadows are beautiful and highly pigmented. How can anyone not like them? honestly. They were perfected and corrected since they were pulled off the market in June. I think they are beautiful.

  7. I hope Piece of Her is good on audio. Steroid injections do help and at least minimize the pain. It’s not magic, but lets you get through the day without feeling grumpy. Best of luck!

  8. I have degenerative disk disease, too…and I’ve tried various things over the years. Nowadays I use anti-inflammatory meds, but I remember trying the steroid injections a few years ago. Good luck with it!

    That makeup looks fun!

I got Pieces of Her this week…hope to read it soon. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

I am sorry to hear about your back trouble and infection. Hopefully the treatment will make you feel a whole lot better. I keep thinking that I should join the local community center to workout. Then I feel guilty since my dogs want to walk with me and I never get myself signed up. I really need more exercise than I get with they dogs (they are so slow!) . Thanks for mentioning Books from the Backlog! I have really been enjoying digging through all the books I already have and seeing what others have hidden away. I have never read Jennifer Armentrout but feel like I should. Enjoy all of your new books!

Aww thanks Carole! Staying active in your community rec centre is a good decision. You might even find somewhere to take the dogs.

  13. We’re getting smoke from BC and California all the way in Colorado, so those must be big fires. It’s been hazy here for weeks. I’m going to start running again tomorrow, though. I hope I don’t regret it. Have a great week! I hope your gym membership is approved quickly.
